Stones and satellites

My 400th photo
This beautiful and incredible site  - under Unesco protection - is called the "Sassi di Matera" (the "Stones of Matera") and is located in the Province of Matera in the southern-Italian Region of Basilicata. Some of these dwellings, dug into the rocks, date back to about 9.000 years ago and are still lived in today...with TV satellites and all!

What a strange and ancient place.
Love the roofs, especially.

Amazing photo of an amazing place. Congratulations on your 400th post.

My wife and I recently spent a week in Bellagio on Lake Como. We did make it over to the Lake Maggiore for our first visit there. We went ot Stressa and the Borromeo Islands. Stunningly beautiful.

It's a great place, and a fine photo. I think I have seen a documentary about it a few years ago.

Congratulations on your 400th photo! Unbelievable...but i had visited that town with my parents when i was ten. I had sometimes thought about it but the last one was years ago. I have a photo somewhere in my parent's house. I'll try dig it up and see if it is actually the same place...! Amazing!!!
