Old historical buildings are being restored...

...not substituted by new ones.
The main buildings in the historical part of Arona date back to a long period between the 11th Century (the main two churches) and the 18th century. More and more of the smaller houses in the narrow streets and alleys in this art of the city have today these warm and sunny colours which in summer form a vibrant contrast against the blue waters of the lake.

Nice vibrant colors. A very good thing that the houses are being restaured, someone learned from the architectural crimes commited from the 60es to the 80es.

These happy colors provide a vibrant contrast to the winter lake pictures you've been showing us, too!

How pretty! Almost makes me want to paint my house yellow...I suspect my neighbors would not be as thrilled!

The lago maggiore is one of my favourite lakes in Europe. Never been to Arona, only Stresa and Locarno in Switzerland but one day we might make it to Arona. Great blog.

Its good that they are keeping the tradition of the town. "Tradition" isn't the word I want but my mind has gone blank. Like your new header photo, though that could have been there for a while and I just haven't noticed.
