These are the more simple houses on one of the canals right near the city centre of The Hague.
Today these "simple" houses cost a fortunate and are in high demand. They often have a small secluded garden on the back. Those who will visit Holland will notice that many houses do not have drawn curtains so that one could look inside. "This", the owners would respond, "because we have nothing to hide".

Oh I would love to stroll the neighborhoods and take a quick peek in the windows. As I was looking at your photo, I was noticing how large the windows were. Do you know if those are a modern addition? Thanks for taking us back to the beautiful neighborhoods of The Hague. I am enjoying your photos so very much.
Thank you, Virginia!!
The old houses in Holland have all rather big windows. This to capture as much light as possible, especially in winter when the days are short.
What a wonderful thought...to leave the windows wide open because there is nothing to hide.
This is more my style of architecture, Diederich. Old style, old materials - clean lines, minimalist.
Not sure about the Dutch having nothing to hide. They are a canny lot the Lowlanders. Conservative and ultra-liberal all at the same time.

That's a lovely spot...
and if I had this kind of view, I would not put curtains either!!
Thanks for your comments, Susan!!
You are right, Julie!! The Dutch have always been very conservative but also progressive at the same time.
Thanks for visiting, Marie!!
