superbe contrasme entre la vielle église et cette sculpture moderne. on dirait la naissance du monde. bonne idée pour le thème du mois.

haughtiness contrasme between the hurdy-gurdy church and this modern sculpture. they would say the birth of the world. good idea for the topic of the month.

A lovely photo and wonderful for theme day!

Not only is the sculpture amazing, but that building behind it is spectacular! I'd load more superlatives into this, but you'd grow tired of me. 6^)

Is it the same artist who did this:

Thank you, Hope!!

Thanks, Elaine!!
I have looked into Greg's post and it definitely looks like we chose the same sculpturer!!

This is so beautiful! I agree with Elaine -- the sculpture is lovely but the building is amazing! Great choice for today.

Great choice for the theme day.
Could you tell me the meaning of the sculpture? I want to know more. Thanks for your pictures.

Interesting sphere! This looks like a beautiful little town.

Well, that sculpture is wonderful and lucky theme day choice. That said, I would be setting up shop in front of that fabulous building and shooting it all day long from every angle etc. The worn patina is magnificent. I have a yellow ochre building in Paris that I fell in love with. Do it Diederick. I must see more!

PS Oh I just read the other comments. Apparently I a not the only one hyperventilating over the building! LOL

Arnaldo Pomodoro is an Italian sculptor. He was born on the 23th June 1926, in Morciano, Romagna, Italy. He currently lives and works in Milan.
Some of Pomodoro's sculptures like the "Sphere Within Sphere" and its variations can be seen in Orta San Giulio (temporary exhibition), the Vatican Museums, Trinity College in Dublin, the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, and in the Berkeley University of California.

I think Architectural Digest or International Travel may want you on their staff.
The photo is wonderful. The color of the old & the texture of the modern - I think I saw photos of Mr. Pomodoro's work, it looks very familiar - but maybe that's its beauty.

i love places like this. Last time in Croatia I saw some similar wonderful towns.

What a stunning scene, regardless of the circles and spheres. At first I noticed the base of the bell and thought that would be the circle but now I see the artwork of course. So much to enjoy in this lovely photograph.

To have a work of art like that to see any old day is beyond my comprehension. Every detail of the building is a treasure and the scupture fits in with it all so perfectly. Happy Theme Day.

Great and amazing choice of a Pomodoro's artwork, especially for the hard contrast between the old place and modern sculpture

I'm not sure how to express myself about this photo. It's like Russian dolls, you know the kind? A doll inside a doll inside a doll. There's so much beauty in this picture.

You have the square itself, the corner, with the pretty buildings and street (are those cobblestones? and how did it get so clean?). Then the main building with its patina and paintings, its stairs and door, and those arches beneath. (I want to see what's under there!) Then the sphere, which begs us to draw near and examine it closely.

Then there is your artistry, Diederick, in having composed this piece. I could go on. You'll get sick of me. This is a glorious work in every sense.

Looks like a very interesting sculpture. Blends in well with it's environment. I would love to see it close-up

Thank you all again for your comments!!
For your information, this 1582 building was the Comunity Building where Justice ("Justice") was excercised by the ruling families and Church throughout the Centuries and is located on the beautiful square facing the lake. Behind Pomodoro's "Sphere in Sphere" there is an open space underneath the building then used as a market place.

I'm not sure I like the sculpture, but I do love the streets and buildings! Gorgeous!

I'm a little late, but happy theme day!

How lucky you are to live in Italy where there's so much art, where art is taken seriously.
