Irish singer and composer, Ray Heffernan

and his Grand Canal Band will hold a concert tomorrow night at 21.30
on the stage of the wonderful Borromeo Park overlooking Arona,
to present their latest CD. I was more than pleased when
Ray asked me to make the photos for this album.
His songs are pure poetry.

Opening up with important words

I found these words written on one of the walls of the
splendid university (in the city of Jin Hua in the Province
of Zhejiang), which has a total floor space of 1.000.000
square meters (including living quarters for students)
in the middle of 220 hectares perfectly well kept green.
The University, which specializes in teaching education
with multiple branches of learning, has an enrolment
of 25.500 undergraduates and 2.650 members of
teaching staff. The university makes strenuous
efforts to open up to the outside world. In
recent years ties of academic exchange
and cooperation have been set up with
92 foreign universities and research
 institutes in 42 countries

陰陽 = Yin Yang

The surname of most of the inhabitants of the Zhuge Bagua village
is "Zhuge".Nearly all of them descend directly  from Zhu Geliang,
politician, strategist and militarist during the period of the three
Kingdoms (184-280 AD).The layout of the village is in the
shape of an eight-sided diagram which encircles the central
part, which is partially composed of water and partially of
land, both entangled with each other into the shape of two
black and white fish. The nine different zones of the
diagram, including the central part, represent nine
major areas of life: prosperity and abundance,
fame and reputation, relationships, family, health,
creativity and children, skills and knowledge,
career and helpful people.

Killing stairs...

...but so worthwhile!
There are no mountain paths in China, only up and
down going stairs! One hundred steps up, then
forty down, then eighty up and sixty down...
I have done this for nearly five hours  but
the landscape of "Yellow Mountain"
is breathtaking and is worthwhile
the effort!

Something different...

Freshly pruned trees on our waterfront here in Arona at dawn.
While playing a little with the colours,
I suddenly found myself in
Dante's Inferno.

When you loose a brother...

...sit down under a tree,
in the silence of a remote past.
Sit down and contemplate,
but keep still,
for not to break
the thin thread
that binds him
to you.
